Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.
The Elmbank Hotel and Lodge’s rooms each have a TV, telephone, tea/coffee-making facilities and a work area. A private bathroom in every bedroom has complimentary toiletries. The rooms are located in either the main building, lodge or courtyard to the rear of the hotel.
The elegant restaurant and separate bar reflect the hotel’s Victorian character. Many meals and beverages are made from locally sourced ingredients. There is an extensive wine list and tea and coffee can be taken in the comfortable lounge.
York’s ancient city walls can be reached in just 10 minutes’ walk, with a further 5 to 10 minutes’ walk taking guests to the historic attractions, including the spectacular York Minster. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside the hotel, and from there a bus in to town takes 3 minutes.
York Railway station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car, and the Elmbank has limited, free parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel, with sightseeing tours going in to town. York Racecourse is a few minutes' away.
